Aquinas-Landmark-Winter-2026-2

For John Moriello ’80, giving back to Aquinas has always been a natural extension of the education, mentorship, and community he experienced here. “When I graduated in 1980, I knew I wanted to give back during my working years,” John reflects. Over time, as his personal circumstances changed, his commitment remained unwavering—and he found a simple way to make it lasting through FreeWill. “I heard about FreeWill from both Aquinas and St. John Fisher University,” John explains. “Since I was already thinking about updating my will, I followed the link, reviewed my plan for a week, and completed it online in less than 20 minutes! The process was thorough but simple.” For John, supporting Aquinas through his will isn’t just about a gift—it’s about investing in a community that shapes lives. “Outside of my family, Aquinas’ educational and inspirational mission is the strongest guiding hand a young person can have as they prepare for college, career, and life,” he says. “By committing to the school, I’m committing to the community as a whole in the best possible fashion.” His time at Aquinas left lasting impressions. One memory stands out vividly: “I never had him for a class, but I was in Mr. Rich Pilliter’s ’63 homeroom as a senior. The man was a rock—smart, witty, immaculately dressed, and unflappable. If someone needed to be set straight, he could do it with ‘the stare,’ his patented move that commanded you to be better. I remember thinking my life would be a success if people respected me the way we respected him.” Including Aquinas in your will or trust is an easy way to join John and other alumni in shaping future generations of compassionate leaders. With FreeWill’s trusted online platform, you can create or update your will in just 20 minutes—securely and for free.
