18 AQUINAS LANDMARK | SUMMER 2024 alumni news spotlights As a chemical engineer for Proctor & Gamble, Frank helped to construct and start up a brand-new pulp mill near Scranton, PA. As a faculty member at Oakland University, Frank received continuous funding from the National Eye Institute of the NIH and other organizations for nearly 40 years, totaling over $12 million. During his academic career, he published over 100 peer-reviewed scienti c articles, collaborated with researchers at over 25 universities, gave scienti c talks in nearly 15 di erent countries, and trained over 100 undergraduate students in his lab. In addition to his research and administrative accomplishments, Frank received numerous awards over the years, including the Frank Giblin Lifetime Achievement Award and Distinguished Professor from Oakland University. Re ecting on his time at Aquinas, Frank shares that AQ provided stability in his life, allowing him to focus on coursework and plan for college and his future career. e discipline and dedication to teaching demonstrated by the Basilian Fathers and other faculty at Aquinas had a signi cant in uence on him. Frank expresses that his experience at Aquinas instilled in him values of integrity, honesty, kindness, compassion, fairness, and respect for others, which he strives to incorporate into both his personal and professional life. Frank has fond memories of his four years at Aquinas, cherishing the friendships he formed. He deeply appreciates the values instilled in him and the instruction that set him on the path to a ful lling career. Frank married his wife, the former Jane Ptaszek, in 1965, and they have two sons, Michael (named a er one of his former Aquinas classmates, Michael Abbey) and Frank, Jr. THE LYND FAMILY Family Edward J. Lynd, Aquinas Class of 1952, and his wife Kathleen L. Lynd, have devoted their lives to their family and Catholic education. As a family, the Lynd’s rmly believe in Aquinas and the foundational values of Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge, which are instilled here. is belief extended to their children: Kevin ‘80, Edward III ‘83, Maureen ‘85, Matthew ‘87 and Brian ‘89, as well as two of their grandchildren: Keith ‘17 and Angelina ‘19. To honor their family’s Aquinas legacy, they established two full-tuition scholarships to provide assistance to a deserving young man and woman for their senior year. e family, as a whole, are proof that the values and spirit of Aquinas live on through the generations, fostering a lasting commitment to Catholic education and the AQ community. Edward J. Lynd ’52, CPA, is a retired Bank Sr. Vice-President. In 1996, Ed was named Outstanding Accountant Alumnus of St. John Fisher University. While at Aquinas, he was involved with Sodality, intramural sports, and the Mission Bouts. Wife, Kathleen L. Lynd, was the rst female Chair of the Aquinas Board of Trustees. During her term, the decision to render Aquinas as a coeducational school was made. In 1994, Kathy was the rst woman to be voted into the Aquinas Hall of Fame. Son, Kevin P. Lynd ’80, served as Band President at Aquinas and won an array of Public Speaking awards before going on to graduate Cum Laude from Syracuse University. Kevin passed away in 2003. Kathleen A. Lynd, is a 1981 graduate of St. Agnes. She is employed by the US Government as a resettlement counselor. In 2022, she received the Superior Honor Award for her service in Afghanistan. Son, Edward J. Lynd III ’83, was Aquinas Class Valedictorian and a member of both the Jazz Band and Marching Band. He went on to graduate from Cornell Law School earning his J.D. degree. His wife, Lisa McLauglin Lynd ’85, was a member of the Marching Band, and worked on the Yearbook as well as the Maroon & White. Lisa is an administrative assistant at St. Joseph’s School. Daughter, Maureen Lynd Marsh ’85 (husband Joseph), transferred to Aquinas the year it became co-ed. She was a Varsity Cheerleader, and also worked on school recruitment and the yearbook. Maureen now works as Payroll Manager for Richey May & Co. located in Denver, CO. Son, Matthew F. Lynd ’87 (wife Rosanna), played basketball and soccer at Aquinas, and is now Chief Physical erapist for Baycare in St. Petersburg, FL. Son, Brian T. Lynd ’89, played soccer and tennis at Aquinas before going on to graduate from the NY School of Visual Arts. He is a member of the Society of Illustrators. Grandchild, Keith E. Lynd ’17, served as President of the National Honor Society, and is a member of Permanent St. omas Club. Keith is now a So ware Engineer for Paychex. Grandchild, Angelina Lynd ’19, was a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Team all four years at AQ, and served as a School Ambassador and Peer Minister. She is now a Teaching Assistant at St. Joseph’s School. MR. KYLE MANSCUK ’07 Athletics Kyle Manscuk graduated from Aquinas in 2007. As a four-year letter winner for the Li’l Irish Boys Varsity Soccer program, Kyle enjoyed an outstanding career in which his Head Coach Howard Allen claims “he was the greatest defender in Aquinas soccer history.” Kyle was part of two NYS Championship teams in 2003 and 2006. As a senior, he was named the All Greater Rochester Player of the Year and made the New York All-State Team. Along with winning the MVP award for the Sectional and State Championship Games, he was also named the Aquinas Male Student Athlete of the Year for the 2006-2007 school year. A er graduating from Aquinas, Kyle attended Binghamton University, where he continued his success on the soccer pitch for the Division I Bearcats. As a freshman, he was named to the America East All-Rookie Team. From his sophomore through senior seasons, Kyle started every game for the Bearcats, twice being honored with America East AllConference recognition. As a senior, the defender pulled o the rare feat of leading his team in scoring with four goals, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. Kyle also enjoyed great success in the classroom, as he was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll for all four years at Binghamton. Upon graduating from Binghamton in 2011, Kyle began his professional soccer career as he played three years for the Rochester Lancers indoor soccer team and two years for the Rochester Rhinos outdoor soccer team. During this time, he also coached soccer at his alma mater, serving as the Li’l Irish Boys JV head coach and assistant Boys Varsity coach. In 2012, Kyle was named the Rhinos Rookie of the Year, and in 2020, he was recognized by the Lancers in the rst class to be inducted into the Lancers Indoor Wall of Fame. ough persistent knee injuries and four knee operations cut his professional soccer career short, it led him to his current career passion as a physician’s assistant. He attended PA school at Barry University’s
