United States, where he attended Boston College. And his studies only deepened his spiritual commitment. While attending Boston College, Anselm worked with firstgeneration African students to help them navigate their cultural experiences and faith. From Boston to Rochester, Anselm arrived at Aquinas in January 2019 as a long-term substitute. He quickly embraced his role as a theology teacher, and after just two months, was offered a full-time position. “In the end, no matter what happens in life, our faith is what lasts,” he reflects. One of the most rewarding moments in his teaching career occurred when one of his students, Ava Buckert ‘25, chose to be baptized, confirming the profound impact his teaching has had on students. This experience affirmed for him the importance of allowing students the freedom to explore their faith journey at their own pace. In his personal life, Anselm’s practices are simple yet meaningful. He starts each day with Lauds, a morning prayer of praise. Each time he gets into a vehicle, he prays to the protection of Our Lady of Travelers. He is the mentor for the Aquinas Diversity Club, coaches the Modified Boys Soccer Team, assists other soccer teams as needed, supervises events, and serves on the Campus Life Team. Anselm is also the Director of Faith Formation at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Webster, NY—a role that allows him to further connect with others in their faith journeys. When asked about the challenges young people face in today’s world, Anselm emphasizes the importance of “keeping an open mind and an open heart.” He encourages students to seek out support within Aquinas, and to take time each day to reflect on their journey. He also advises patience: “If you’re going through something difficult or don’t have the answer, pray and sleep on it. Be patient, and God will show you the way.” In all he does, Anselm Mesue models a life of faith, humility, and service. His hope for the future is to continue inspiring Aquinas students, fostering their spiritual growth while living out the mission of “Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.” Anchored by his belief in the Holy Spirit’s guidance, Anselm’s journey is a beacon of hope for students, faculty, and alumni alike, illuminating a path grounded in resilience, kindness, and an enduring commitment to faith. 27
