26 AQUINAS LANDMARK | SPRING 2023 Alumni Notes Frank Giblin, PhD ’60 retired as Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Sciences Emeritus after 47 years at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Frank was Director of the university’s Eye Research Institute from 2004 to 2021. Dennis Sadler ’62 was inducted into the Section V Executive Hall of Fame. Bob Gibbons ’65 authored a book entitled, Growing Up on Oriole Street, which includes an entire chapter dedicated to Aquinas! Bob made a special trip back to his alma mater in October to speak to Mrs. Magar’s Creative Writing class. Mr. and Mrs. James Naughton ’66 retired to the Phoenix, AZ suburbs after residing in Virginia Beach, VA for 40 years. Congratulations! Ray Shea ’66 published two new books – A Silent Lament and Robbery & Ruins. Congratulations to Joe Petrelli ’69, President and Co-Founder of Demotech, a financial analysis firm located in Columbus, OH. Demotech Inc. has become the tenth organization to be named a Nationally Recognized Statistical Ratings Organization (NRSRO) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Bob Duffy ’72, President/CEO of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, made the Rochester Business Journal’s Power 100 list, which recognizes power players in the Rochester region. Herbie J Pilato ‘78 published his latest book, The 12 Best Secrets of Christmas. Fr. John Huber ’81 was elected Vicar General of the Congregation of St. Basil. Fr. John is also a member of Aquinas’ Board of Trustees. Pete Noto, CFP ’81 was listed in the Rochester Business Journal’s Power 30 for Banking and Finance. He also sits on Aquinas’Foundation Board. Todd Battaglia ’82 was named to Advisorhub’s 50 Advisors to Watch list. Bob Bleier ‘82, founding partner of Montage Wealth Management, was recognized as a Rochester Business Journal Financial Leader for Wealth/Financial Advisors. Dave Riedman ’82, President/CEO of Riedman Companies, made the Rochester Business Journal’s Power 100 list, which recognizes power players in the Rochester region. Dr. Paul Buechel ’83 released his third book, Dissecting the World’s Religions: Which Stand Up to the Test? Betsy (Murty) Dell ’84 received the Engineering Achievement Award from Kettering University. The award recognizes an individual who has made specific contributions with positive and lasting effects in the field of engineering. Betsy is currently a Professor of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Technology at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). She also serves as the Director of RIT’s AdvanceRIT office, Senior Faculty Associate to the Provost and co-chair of RIT’s President’s Commission on Women. Steven Marcinkowski ’85 was elected town supervisor of Theresa, NY, which is located in the Thousand Islands region. This is Steven’s third term as town supervisor. Nick Castronova ’87, managing director at Oxford Capital Mortgage, was named New York Association of Mortgage Brokers, Broker Member of the Year. Guy Guglielmino ’87 was appointed President of Enovis recovery sciences. Jim Brennan ’88 was named to the Rochester Business Journal’s Power 30 list for banking and finance. Jim is the managing partner of the Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Upstate New York marketplace and also vice chair of the Aquinas Board of Trustees. Jeremy Havens ’89, a REALTOR® with Howard Hanna, was recognized by the company in 2022 for Best of the Best, Million Dollar Producer, National Sales Excellence, Platinum Award Winner, and Top Individual Producer. David A Perrotta ‘91 was awarded Outstanding Craftsman by the Rochester Builders Exchange. Matt Piccone ‘92 opened the PAWS Youth & Advocacy Center, a 22,000 sq. ft. facility in Rochester, NY, which offers Rochester-area youth tools for success through various enrichment programs focused around prevention, advocacy, wellness, sustainability, life skills, and the arts. Michael Buckpitt ’93 was named new chief operations officer of Recovery Options Made Easy. Michael McNelis ‘93 won first place at the US Masters Swimming National Championships in the 400 IM. Mike Ciavarri ‘94, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Marshall Exteriors, was presented with an award for achieving the highest monthly sales in company history in April. Steve Schwab ‘94, CEO of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, received the 2022 Non-Profit Leader of the Year Award at the Modern Military Association of America gala presented by Comcast NBC Universal. Tad Valentino ‘94 joined the Rochester Lady Lancers Soccer program as an assistant coach. Michael T. Burns ’95 was appointed Budget Director by Rochester Mayor Malik Evans. The City Budget Director oversees the Office of Management and Budget to prepare the City’s annual operating budget, which now totals more than $566 million. Nick Valentino ‘95 received the Arthur J. Bond Faculty Award for advising and supporting the University of Rochester’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. Valerie (Stonehouse) Clements ’96 began her role as Aquinas’ newest Alumni Engagement and Events Manager in November. Nicole (Indiano) Scherberger ’96 is now the Corporate Benefits Manager at Gleason Works in Rochester, NY. Melisza (Escher) Campos ’97 served as the moderator for The Power of Social Media Workshop, which was part of the Rochester Business Journal’s Women’s Leadership Summit. Anthony Green ’99 was named Vice Provost for Academic Finance and Planning for the University of Rochester. Tim Cupello ’01, head coach of the UC Riverside men’s soccer team, was named Big West Coach of the Year. This was the first such honor in the program’s 22-year Division I history. Jeffrey Green, Ed.D. ’01, principal at Hilton High School, was named to the Rochester Business Journal’s Forty Under 40. The Forty Under 40 awards recognize area leaders who are younger than 40 years old based on their professional accomplishments, community service, and commitment to inspiring change. Michael Yanklowski ’04 became Chief Financial Officer at the Arc of Monroe. Michael Roorda ‘05 joined the Board of Trustees of the Colin F. Kennedy Foundation in March. The Foundation aims to strengthen the community by providing greater opportunities to underserved families, with a particular focus on improving the lives of the youth.
