Chanel Alexander will attend St. Bonaventure University for soccer, Tyler Szalkowski will attend the University at Albany to play football, and Gavin Conlan will attend Lake Erie College to play lacrosse. Catholic Library World Selects Mrs. Melton as Reviewer Aquinas librarian, Julie Melton, has been asked to be a book reviewer for the Catholic Library Association. This involves receiving, reading, and then writing reviews of books for the Catholic Library Association’s professional journal, Catholic Library World . She will join more than 200 other librarians, teachers, and professors in writing short, information pieces that will guide librarians and teachers who select books for their libraries. Reviewing is an important service to the profession and Mrs. Melton looks forward to contributing to the world of reading in this way. AQ Voted Best Private School The Aquinas Institute of Rochester has been recognized as the Best Private School in the 2020 Rochester Offi- cial Community Choice Awards. Sponsored by the Democrat and Chronicle , the Choice Awards honor organi- zations and businesses that have been nominated by and voted for by the public. “This truly is a testament to how our families feel about their experience at Aquinas, but also demonstrates how the greater Rochester community views our AQ Family,” said Aquinas President Dr. Anthony Cook ‘99. “I’m very proud of our whole team, including the faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and administration, as well as our students, parents, and alumni.” 12 AQUINAS LANDMARK | SPRING 2021 W Hat ’ s n eWs Sherron ‘22 Organizes Event in Support of AQ & Other Area Schools Lucas Sherron ’22, a participant in the COVID Road Rally organized by Christian Valentino ’91 this past summer, was so inspired by the event that he organized one of his own during the Christmas break. The Rochester area scavenger hunt, while exceptionally fun, was also an opportunity to give back. Forty-seven teams participated in Lucas’ COVID Christmas Road Rally raising over $750. Proceeds from the event were donated to Hope Hall School, St. Pius X CYO, and the Aquinas COVID Relief Fund. While each location receiving donations is near and dear to the Sherron family, Lucas said “I wanted to donate to the Aquinas COVID Relief Fund because it’s helping so many people with tuition right now that are going through tough times because of the pandemic.” As part of the scavenger hunt teams donated clothing, books, and food, and completed random acts of kindness. With such a positive response from participants, Lucas says he will definitely be planning another road rally in the future. Aquinas junior Mackenna Brown and her parents, Ray and Colleen, take a photo at one of the road rally stops. The Brown family earned the most points of the evening!
